Helping Mamas Donations

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Sep 19, 2019 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Helping Mamas Knoxville opened operations in December 2018 and has already distributed more than 5,000 essential items to children living in poverty in East Tennessee. Helping Mamas works by collecting baby items through donations from the community, corporations, and volunteers. Then they distribute these necessities through social workers and local partner organizations.

Currently 18 partners are working with Helping Mamas to help supply moms and families with items such as diapers, wipes, pacifiers, bottles, formula, and a wide range of other items. Helen Ross McNabb, Catholic Charities of East Tennessee, Hope Resource Center, Regional Perinatal Program at The University of Tennessee Medical Center, and Knox County Head Start are a few examples of the organizations we serve. A full list of our partners is available at https://helpingmamas.org/knoxville/.

Helping Mamas Knoxville shares the same mission, vision and model as Helping Mamas Atlanta. Over the last four years Helping Mamas Atlanta has grown to be the baby supply bank of Georgia. They have served over 45,000 children and distributed over one million essential items. After watching the tremendous impact this organization has been making in the community, Tess Hutchison Frear, a relative of the Founder of Helping Mamas, felt it was her calling to make an impact here.

“Local agencies have embraced the opportunity to partner with us because they need help serving these families. East Tennessee had no coordinated efforts to get baby supplies into the hands of moms who need them most. I am hopeful our community will support the growing demand we have for donations, storage, drop-off locations, and volunteers,” says Tess Frear, Executive Director of Helping Mamas Knoxville.

Three out of five parents must choose between food or diapers for their children. Public assistance programs do not allow the purchase of critical baby items such as diapers and wipes. Helping Mamas Knoxville has an ongoing need for diapers, wipes, and other necessities. Pack n’ plays and car seats are in critical demand since these are more expensive purchases and must be new to meet safety guidelines.
