DAYTON, Ohio /New York Netwire/ — Ohio-based nonprofit, East End Community Services, is rebuilding the Twin Towers neighborhood one home at a time. Located on the east side of Dayton, Twin Towers has had its share of ups and downs throughout the years. Named for the beautiful Catholic church St. Mary’s that stands tall with two protruding towers, it has always been a strong working class neighborhood.
But like many Rust Belt cities, Twin Towers has been hit hard by global economics and the recent recession.
But there is a large shining star in the neighborhood that is literally changing the face of Twin Towers. East End Community Services, a local non-profit, is managing a neighborhood revitalization project called “Twin Towers Crossing.” Currently in phase two, they have been able to remove 110 blighted houses within a 16 square block area around the neighborhood public school and replace them with 84 new single-family three and four bedroom homes.
These affordable, energy efficient homes are available for lease with the option to purchase.
“We understand that children do best when they live in decent, affordable homes, in safe and supportive neighborhoods,” says East End Executive Director Jan Lepore-Jentleson.
The Twin Towers Crossing Project, in partnership with the City of Dayton and others, is in its fourth year.
